I’m finally going to Tokyo! I’ve confirmed all my dates and appointments for my upcoming trip in November, and Leica Canada has generously offered to loan me a camera for the month while I’m there. Because of this, I thought it would be fun to do a special photo project on my blog with Leica. I won’t say which camera I’m taking with me, but if you go to my Instagram account, you’ll see which one it is.
I’ll have a month to play around with the Leica and get some great shots while walking around all the cool districts of Tokyo. I’m pretty excited about this opportunity since it’s always been a dream of mine to shoot a Leica while in Tokyo. Sure the Panasonic LX-3 that I used during my last Tokyo trip claims to have a Leica lens, but we know it’s not a REAL Leica lens. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my LX-3 and still think the LX and D-LUX series are one of the better enthusiast cameras out there. But I want to shoot with a Leica Leica, not just kind-of-Leica camera.
I posted the above image because, well this is an image-themed blog and I had to post something right? In keeping with the Leica theme, the above image taken in 2010 was with my Panasonic LX-3 with a Leica designed lens. When travelling to a big city like Tokyo, I wouldn’t recommend dragging a huge kit, nor a huge camera. A compact all-in-one, or a mirror-less kit is all you want to carry. I’ll never drag my D-SLR kit with me unless I’m doing a job or going to a family event (like my little brother’s wedding!) as the weight and space becomes a burden and its no longer a vacation. On this upcoming trip, I’m only bringing my faithful Ricoh GR-D IV and the Leica. That’s it. I want to bring more (like the CLE with 40mm lens, or my original Ricoh GR-1 film camera), but my wife would kill me if I had 3 cameras around my neck as I walked around with her shopping, eating, and sight-seeing. Oh well…
Keep coming back for more announcements and posts and enjoy looking back at some of my older posts going back to my 2010 Tokyo trip. And don’t forget, have fun shooting!!
